[Actually, I don't know what eves are, but it sounds better than trim or fascia or That Panel Right Under the Roof.]
It is very curious indeed, and at the present time there are no known suspects, though Miss Nora is quite certain that the "wild teenager boys across the pond" are to blame.

(n) eaves (the overhang at the lower edge of a roof)
Thanks for the clarification! The dictionary...always a good idea.
I must have been thinking about what happened in the OTHER kind of dart on the OTHER kind of eve...

The mystery of the dart in the eaves has been solved, sort of: Miss Ellie's dad says, according to Miss Nora, that it is, in fact, not a dart, but an eye hook...perhaps related to the previous owner's affinity for ham radio and thus need for various antennae atop his roof. "It is called an 'eye hook,'" says the Divine Miss N., "because it is a straight piece of metal with a thing on the end that looks like an eyeball."
Now we can all rest easy.
